A limited edition of fifteen unique pieces, the Wilder plates occupy a place between contemporary ceramics and fine art.
Taking as a starting point, the landscape surrounding Catherine’s childhood home, five unique glazes have been developed from raw woodland materials. The resulting series of wood ash glazes come together with pure white porcelain in the Wilder edition; connecting home, landscape and person.
Each of the fifteen plates has unique qualities across the five glazes, please make your selection when ordering (images appear in the glaze order as described below).
The first and most simple glaze is made from pure wood ash and water to create a light crackled surface that flows across the surface. The second is combined with potash and red iron oxide whose movement has created a mesmerising set of concentric circles, matte in finish and with a beautiful translucency. Glaze three again, contains red iron oxide, but when mixed with rutile produces intricate detailing with colours from ochre to peaches and silver and a soft satin feel. The fourth glaze is the most subtle, at first just a milky phosphorescence but looking closer to reveal beautiful textures and faint crackling. The final glaze combines the wood ash with Japanese tenmoku glaze, creating a glassy, deep and rich brown with an almost tortoiseshell patina.
