Phil Root is a contemporary artist based in Bristol, UK. Widely known for his paintings, Phil has produced Labrador Editions’ first wearable – a limited edition silk scarf available in two designs.
Painted first on canvas and then reproduced on 100% silk crêpe de chine, both scarves have a beautifully soft drape and finish. The colours are rich and bold and both designs are perfect for either displaying in the home as an artwork or wearing as a scarf.
Typical of Phil’s work, both of these designs are layered with a multiplicity of ideas, thoughts and narratives; from socio-political philosophy to postmodern literature, symbology and music. Their titles are taken from the works of American writer Richard Brautigan and their archetypal imagery propagates learned memories from a collective consciousness.
Phil’s wide-ranging personal interests are a direct influence on his work, and each painting is imbued with all that he is interested in at the time. Phil is also co-founder of The Grantchester Pottery, producing artwork alongside functional and decorative objects.
Throughout the year Labrador Editions commissions contemporary artists to design for home and living, opening up new ways of working whilst producing beautiful objects for you to cherish and enjoy. All of our editions come with a card of authenticity, hand-signed and numbered by the artist.
